How to clean fishing reels regularly

Regular cleaning is an essential step in maintaining your fishing reel, helping to extend the life of your reel, maintain its performance, and reduce the occurrence of breakdowns.
First, remove surface dirt. Dirt and residue from the surface should be removed immediately after using the reel. Use warm water and mild soap, or a professional reel cleaner, and gently wipe the exterior of the reel with a soft brush. Pay special attention to cleaning key parts of the reel, such as handles, drag systems, knobs, etc. This helps prevent the accumulation of dirt and improves the efficiency of the reel's operation.
Second, clean the reel system. The reel system is one of the core components of a reel, and its smooth operation is crucial to fishing activities. Use a professional reel cleaner or clean, light machine oil and apply it lightly along the surface of the reel and rod. This helps reduce friction and improves the smoothness of the line. At the same time, check the winding system for tangled or strong wires and resolve possible problems promptly.
The third step is to clean the internal parts. Some fishing reels can be disassembled to facilitate deeper cleaning of internal parts. Before disassembling your reel, be sure to read the manufacturer's manual carefully to understand the reel's construction and components. Use a professional reel lube or grease to lubricate internal parts such as gears and bearings to ensure they stay smooth during use.
The fourth step is to check the anti-reverse system. If the reel is equipped with an anti-reverse system, it should be checked regularly for proper operation. Gently rotate the handle to ensure the flexibility of the anti-reversal system to prevent the line from turning back under reverse tension, causing confusion and jamming of the line.
Finally, pay attention to waterproofing measures. If the reel will be used in a wet environment such as saltwater fishing, special attention should be paid to waterproofing. Make sure the waterproof sealing ring of the reel is intact and replace worn sealing rings promptly to prevent seawater from penetrating into the interior of the reel and causing corrosion.
